Soul Cleanse: Hiking in Big Sur

Talk about a breath of fresh air!

Hiking in Big Sur this weekend was a much needed break from the business of the week. We saw some amazing sights, like a giant cloud front moving in from the ocean, dazzling waves, and fairytale-like woods. 

We took the Andrew Molera Loop, a nearly 9 mile trail with an amazing mix of bluffs, beach, woods, and solid elevation. If you take the beach path first you will get a good work out on the hike up to the woods. Be sure to stop off when you see signs for the beach to get your toes in the sand. You have to hike over some rocks and really hone your balance, but it is worth it. 

Be sure to pack a lunch! We wisely did this, and we were able to turn the hike into an all day adventure. We ate on top of an amazing bluff while enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery. I love the sound of silence up high like this, and I really feel like spending time up here gave me a much needed "soul cleanse".

From here the elevation got a little tougher, and we definitely felt it by the time we reached the apex. Again though, the views did not disappoint. 

I didn't think I could fall more in love with this hike, but the views inland through the woods were equally as spectacular. I felt like I was walking through an enchanted fairyland, and half expected to see gnomes running around!

Overall this hike did not disappoint, and while I wouldn't say it is an easy hike, it is definitely doable and easy to break up into smaller legs if you want to take it slowly. If you are looking for a great workout, this hike can also deliver on that! I know we surely felt it in the morning.
